Chinese export porcelain  |  Treasure Trove; A Brazilian collector puts his wares on display. Economist, Nov 26, 2011

(book review on Maria Antónia Pinto de Matos, The RA Collection of Chinese Ceramics: A Collector’s Vision (Three Volumes). Jorge Welsh Books, 2011)

Quote:

"WHEN the Portuguese began trading with China in the early 1500s, porcelain was one of the luxury goods they carried home in their ships. Only the Chinese knew how to make this delicate, often translucent, material that rings when you tap it.

"For Portuguese speakers these [Chinese porcelain] works have long been an evocation of a seafaring heritage in which many take pride. Now Chinese collectors are beginning to acquire them as homage to the sophistication and commercial acumen of their forebears. For the moment, though, the best collection is still in Brazil.

Note:
(a) tureen (n; French terrine, from feminine of terrin "of earth", from Latin terra earth):

(b) cokerel (n; from Anglo-French cokerel, diminutive of coc):
"a young male of the domestic chicken (Gallus gallus)"

In other words: cock, rooster

(f) Despite quotation 2 ("the best collection is still in Brazil"), "the RA collection" at issue is a collection at

Royal Academy of Arts

It is true that the search engine of both web sites does not turn up Chinese porcelain. But the collection nonetheless is with Royal Academy of Arts.

King George III of United Kingdom established this Academy in 1768 in London.

Here is my proof.
(i) Introduction of the book in the publisher's web site:

The RA Collection of Chinese Ceramics: A Collector’s Vision [English] Cerâmica da China. Colecção RA [Portugese;] by Maria Antónia Pinto de Matos. Jorge Welsh Books, undated.

("The author Maria Antónia Pinto de Matos has been researching the RA Collection for 11 years * * * It [the book] gives details of many rare or unique pieces in the RA Collection, which are the only ones of their type yet recorded.")

Please click the URL at this web page (http://www.racollection.net) to view some photos of this collection.

(ii) Reference book on exportation of Chinese porcelain. Published on 5 September 2011. London, 5 September 2011, Art Media Agency (AMA).

("it [the book] will allow readers to explore the RA collection; tags include "royal academy of arts."
(g) I just spent more than an hour to do the online research.
