My comment:
(a) summary underneath the title in print: Tariffs are just one way to shrink a deficit. Here are some other ideas for restoring balance between imports and exports
(b) The print and online version is one and identical.
(c) There is no need to read text. View the graphic, which shows Taiwan still pulls off, in terms of " current account balance as a percentage of GDP," better performance than Germany and Japan presently (as decades before). In this graphic, Taiwan is second to Singapore that is because Taiwan has offshored a lot of manufacturing to China. On the other hand, Taiwanese remains as miserable as decades before, measured by the yardstick of living standard.
(d) The graphic shows that Mexico, for example, has a current account DEFICIT with the rest of the world.
(e) Current account of a nation has four components: balance of good.merchandise, balance of service; investment and proceeds, and foreign aid between nations. |
