(a) "Intel held a coming-out party Tuesday [Sept 24, 2023] for its Meteor Lake [Intel 4 node, following Intel 7 node used in both Alder Lake and Raptor Lake (released/launched on Nov 4, 2021 and Oct 20, 2022, respectively], the processor that will go on sale Dec 14. But if you're trying to decide whether to stick with Intel-powered Windows laptops or move to Apple's efficient, powerful new MacBooks, pay attention to the three other processors in the works.
At Intel's Innovation conference, Chief Executive Pat Gelsinger touted a sequence of new processors due to arrive in 2024 and 2025. First are Arrow Lake [Intel 20A node or 2 nm] and Lunar Lake [Intel 18A or 1.8 nm]. Then, in 2025, comes Panther Lake [18A also], whose design is 'well underway,' Gelsinger said, confirming a rumored code name.
(b) "Intel expects to get the first EUV machine for high-volume chipmaking at the tail end of 2023, Gelsinger said. The sole supplier is Dutch company ASML.
My comment: I wonder how without EUV, Intel might be able to produce chips lower than 10 nm. Many people now question SMIC's ability to manufacture 7-nm chips for Huawei smartphone, for the same reason.
