(I) Upon wake-up this morning, I realized that the West does have 瓦 roof tiles, recalling Stanford University (which I once visited) and Mr Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago.
(1) With images.google.com, I found close-up photos of roof tiles in Stanford University:
(a) an panoramic view of Stanford University:

Jitze Couperus, Hoover Tower at Stanford University. Flickr, Nov 16, 2010
https://www.flickr.com/photos/jitze1942/5186861980
("The red tile roofs of Stanford University are very evident from the air - and are a product of the Gladding McBean factory")
(i) Gladding, McBean
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gladding,_McBean
("During the heyday of architectural terra cotta, the company 'dominated the industry in California and the Far West' "/ section 1 Founding)

"Terracotta pottery, as earthenware is called when not used for vessels, is an ancient building material that translates from Latin as 'baked earth.' "  en.wikipedia.org for " architectural terra cotta."
(ii) English dictionary:
* vessel (n):
"1: a ship or large boat
2: a hollow container, especially one used to hold liquid, such as a bowl or cask"
https://www.lexico.com/en/definition/vessel

Definition 2, not 1, fits the bill.
* terracotta (n; etymology: "early 18th century from Italian terra cotta baked earth, from Latin terra cocta")
https://www.lexico.com/definition/terracotta
(iii) Italian-English dictionary:
* cuòcere (verb; past participle masculine còtto, whose feminine form is còtta): "to cook, to bake"
https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/cuocere
(iv) Latin-English dictionary:
* terra (noun feminine):
"1: land
3: the substance generally composing the dry land: clay, clod, dirt, earth, mold/mould, soil
6: the planet Earth"
https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/terra
* coctus  (perfect passive participle MASCULINE of verb coquere cook; feminine: cocta)
https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/coctus
kaolinite  高岭土
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kaolinite
("Rocks that are rich in kaolinite are known as kaolin (/ˈkeɪ.əlɪn/) * * * The name kaolin is derived from Gaoling (Chinese: 高嶺; lit. 'High Ridge'), a Chinese village [sic; should be 江西省景德镇附近的高岭山] near Jingdezhen in southeastern China's Jiangxi Province.[11] The name entered English in 1727 from the French version of the word: kaolin, following François Xavier d'Entrecolles's reports on the making of Jingdezhen porcelain")
(b) a close-up view of roof of Hoover Tower:

title: "IMG_2043 artsy hoover tower roof tiles stanford" (formerly in the website of Stanford University but no longer; Google Image retains a copy). See attachment at the bottom.

The roof tile is beaver-tail.
(b) Lathrop Library:

Stanford University, Lathrop Library. SGH (founded by MIT people in 1956 in Boston, by Howard Simpson, Werner Gumpertz, and Frank Heger), undated
https://www.sgh.com/project/stanford-university-lathrop-library/
("Originally constructed as the Graduate School of Business, the Lathrop Library was converted to a library and auditorium in 2015. The building is distinguished by exposed cast-in-place concrete facades, bronze-anodized aluminum windows and storefront, and hipped clay tile roofs. SGH assessed the condition of the hipped and low-slope roofs, facades, and terraces")

Take note of two photos at the bottom. This is "monk and nun" or mission tile.

(2)
(a) Mar-a-Lago
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mar-a-Lago
("Spanish for sea to lake * * * At the time of her death in 1973, Post bequeathed the property to the National Park Service, hoping it could be used for state visits or as a Winter White House, but because the costs of maintaining the property exceeded the funds provided by Post, and because it was difficult to secure the facility (as it is located in the flight path of Palm Beach Airport), the property was returned to the Post Foundation by an act of Congress in 1981.  In 1985, Mar-a-Lago was purchased by Donald J Trump for around $10 million"/ section 1 Origin of the name)

Quote:

"The elaborate mansion-turned-private-club has weathered its share of hurricanes since it was completed in 1927. Its stucco-covered walls * * *

"Trump bought Mar-a-Lago, the mansion built by cereal heiress Marjorie Merriweather Post, in 1985 at age 39 from her foundation for a price recorded at $5 million, reportedly paying several million more for the furnishings. A decade later, after pouring millions of dollars into its restoration, he opened The Mar-A-Lago Club, retaining residential quarters to use for himself and family members.

"Married to financier EF Hutton when she [Post] built it * * * Many of the walls are 3-feet thick.

• The article did not mention roof, but the photo accompanying it shows monk and nun tile.
