My comment: VOA has cited 三菱研究所的防务专家平岗升 and 波士顿大学的军事专
家麦克尔-鲁宾逊 many times. I have not been able to find them. I suspect
Michael Robinson is with India University, not Boston University.

I do not think China objects.

Mr. Ichiro Ozawa publicly proposed US airbase move to Shimoji Island at very end of 2009. He might have dipped his toe in Beijing's water. (Taiwan would prefer other nations not to consult with Beijing about Taiwan.) Then he visited China and met with Pres. Hu Jintao. Presumably he would broach the move. So when Liberty Times reported two days ago that the move was set, Pres. Hu's view must be known by then.
