Samantha Pearson, A Magician's Biggest Trick: Heel to Hero; Secret-spilling performer finds fame in Brazil. Wall Street Journal, June 11, 2025, at page A1
https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/w ... al-hero/ar-AA1GqimY
("Residents of the South American country [Brazil] live in constant fear of being taken advantage of -- by corrupt politicians or scheming criminals -- and don't take kindly to being tricked tricked, by magicians or anyone")

My comment:
(a) The first clause of the quotation is apt to describe Taiwanese also.
(b) For the idiom "heel to hero," see heel (professional wrestling)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heel_(professional_wrestling
-- first sentence only, as the rest is not informative.
(c) take kindly to
