Anup Kaphle and Habiba Nosheen, After string of gay-friendly measures, Nepal aims to tap valuable tourist market. Washington Post, Jan. 7, 2011.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2011/01/07/AR2011010702762.html
("'They [Gays] spend a lot, and we want tourists in this country who will spend a lot,' said Kishore Thapa, secretary at the government's Tourism Ministry")

My comment:
(a) The report states, "According to the Nepal government's annual report, tourism contributed about $372 million to the Nepali economy."

Or about 1/33 of nominal GDP ($12.9 billion).

(b) Nepal
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nepal
(The word "Nepal" is believed by scholars to be derived from the word "Nepa": which refers to the Newar Kingdom, the present day Kathmandu Valley. With Sanskritization, the Newar word Nepa became Nepal)
(c) Kathmandu Valley

(section 1 Etymology; The Newars, generally acknowledged to be the original inhabitants of the valley)

(d) Outer Cape is famously gay-friendly. Popular in summertime. Various private companies operate high-speed ferry services between Boston and Provincetown (90 minutes one way; air-conditioned lower deck).

(i) Provincetown, Massachusetts

(The "Province Lands" were first formally recognized by the union of Plymouth colony and Massachusetts Bay colony in 1692)

(section 3 History: how Cape Cod was named in 1602)

By Mayflower, Pilgrim arrived at Plymouth in 1620.

(ii) Cape Cod

(Late in the 1900s, new arrivals began calling towns from Orleans to Provincetown the "Outer Cape")

(iii) See the map in
Orleans, Massachusetts

(first settled in 1693 by Pilgrims from the Plymouth Colony; Orleans was officially incorporated in 1797. Orleans was named in honor of Louis Philippe II, Duke of Orléans [1747-1793;  House of Bourbon, France], in recognition of France's support for the 13 colonies during the American Revolution, and because the town did not want an English name, as they had been captured twice by the British during the war.)
