Kathrin Hille, Global pioneers of ‘China Inc’: As Chinese companies expand abroad, they are having to adjust how they prepare executives for life away from home. Financial Times, June 28, 2011
http://www.ft.com/cms/s/0/169148f8-a0e9-11e0-adae-00144feabdc0.html

Quote:

"What makes Chinese expats suffer most, however, is the lack of authentic Chinese food.

"But because Chinese managers often view overseas postings as a hardship, few are willing to stay more than one or two years – too short to get serious work done or to help the company build a body of knowledge and experience in those markets.

My comment:
(a) I do not know other Taiwanese, for I have known few after coming to US. I enjoy foods in US, and always think food in Taiwan is too salty, to oily, not wholesome.
(b) About this report in print (as opposed to online):
(i) the side bar is titled "Portrait of a Chinese expatriate executive" (rather than "Working overseas" in the online vrsion); and
(ii) there is a panel of figures:

"$900m
Amount invested by Chinese companies overseas in 1990
-------------------------------
$59bn
Amount invested by Chinese companies overseas in 2010"

(c) Ganesha
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ganesha
(widely revered as the Remover of Obstacles; section 1Etymology and other names)
(d) As for pioneers of Taiwan Inc. That was decades ago. They were mostly the (male) owner of a small-and medium-enterprise, lugging a suitacase and flying around teh world (though his English was poor).
(e) Registration is necessary to read this report.
