“ABOARD THE CHINESE DESTROYER HAIKOU -- The young Chinese naval officers were proud to show off their ship. ‘Whatever the US Navy has, we have,’ one officer said.
“In the delicate dance of diplomacy, Japan and China are avoiding any direct interaction on the seas off Hawaii. The chief of staff for Japan’s naval forces, Adm Katsutoshi Kawano, said the Hawaii exercises are at least a chance for the two rivals to work on a multinational stage.
“The relationship remains uneven. Chinese helicopters land on American warships, but the workhorse US Navy MH-60S aircraft are not landing on the Chinese destroyer or frigate, where the flight decks are too small.
My comment:
(a) This report does not say much. However, this is the first American report, to the best of my knowledge, on a visit to a Chinese Warship.
