(a) "California kindergartner Dani stunned her parents in May when she addressed her mom, who said she was going to the eye doctor, in a polished British accent: 'Mummy, are you going to the optician?'  'And we were like, "the what?" ' says Dani's father, Matias Cavallin. 'That's [Optician's] like a college-level word,' he says. * * * Dani's grandparents — immigrants from Argentina who mostly speak Spanish"
(i) A unisex name in English, Dani is short from Daniel (male given name; meaning "God is my judge" in Hebrew) or Danielle (female given name).  

Daniel in Spanish or Portuguese is also spelled the same, but pronounced slightly differently, See

(Years after I came to America, I was still puzzled why Americans call cookies cookies (in Taiwan we use Oxford or Cambridge dictionaries, so definitions and pronunciations are British), but after learning its etymology (from Dutch language; the Dutch once colonized lower Manhattan as New Amsterdam), it became natural that American call cookie cookie.
